Experience
Catering Design Services – Interior Designer, February 2005 – present day
Since February 2005, I have been working for CDS, who are recognised as one of the most forward thinking and professional design and installation companies in the UK food service industry.
I have designed facilities for all sectors of the commercial foodservice market including clients in business, retail, leisure, healthcare and education. Ensuring that all legislation and recommended best practices are met. I have provided kitchen, servery and dining areas that operate safely, efficiently and profitably, now matter how large or small.
I have enhanced many of my skills using a wide variety of computer programs, as well as developing a client-designer re pour. Undertaking complete front of house re-designs including lighting and flooring layouts, colour schemes, the provision of sample boards of selected materials and 3D computerised visuals.
This role has allowed me to take on more responsibility than a typical interior designer. Liaising with architects and contractors, obtaining service information for drawings and compiling quotations. I have also had the opportunity to follow some of my projects right through the turnkey project management service which CDS provides.
I have recently been involved in the successful re-design and organisation of the CDS office space. This project allowed me to gain the perspective not only of the designer but of the client enabling me to obtain the required tailored result.
Proffits of Bolton – Interior Designer, November 2004 – February 2005
In my first professional interior design role, I undertook simple plan layouts at first, familiarising myself with materials, well known soft furnishing names such as Nono Designs, Harlequin, Linge rose furniture and Hulsta.
This position also launched my interpersonal skills with clients: undertaking meetings at clients homes, discussing their needs, then collating survey information. Using my knowledge of design and Proffits’ product range on the shop floor I ensured the client got the best design for their money.
Education
Manchester College of Arts and Technology , 2006 – present day
I am currently studying for the C&G Level 2 Certificate ElectroTechnical qualification at MANCAT in my spare time. The current aim of widening my knowledge and understanding of electrical installations will improve my skills of service drawings in future positions. It is also a money saving venture for the future with domestic electrical problems.
The Manchester Metropolitan University, 2000 – 2004
Interior Design BA (Hons)
Faringdon School, 1993 – 2000
3 A-levels and 8 GCSE’s
Interests
I spend a lot of my time at my allotment which, I took on late last summer. I have thrived in the opportunity to design something all together different, something that changes everyday. My main objective with this project is to only use recycled materials to create installations for my allotment. This has combined nicely with my other hobby of treasure hunting in skips for useful things. I have also rescued several chairs and taken the time to restore and reupholster them.
I recently made the joint purchase of a new home and I am currently taking the time to plan and restore the original features of the period property whilst sensitively introducing more high-tech installations such as internet operated heating systems.
